The Importance of Carpet Cleaning for Asthma and Allergy Sufferers

Asthmatic Safe Carpet Cleaning by Dublin’s Fine Material Specialists

At Carpetcare.ie we appreciate the importance of maintaining a clean home for those who suffer with allergies and asthma. And if left uncleaned a build-up of dust and dust mites can lead to potentially life-threatening conditions for asthmatics in particular. Carpets, along with upholstery and other soft furnishings act almost like dust filters in a home. And like any filter they must be cleaned regularly to prevent any toxic build-ups. To tackle an accumulation of dust mites we understand that domestic, and even commercial grade vacuuming alone will not deal with a dust mite build up. Therefore, when cleaning carpets with asthmatic or allergenic care in mind we always hot water rinse extract every carpet to best tackle the dust mites that reside in your home.

The Carpet Care Cleaning Process for Asthmatics

  1. Visually inspect for loose knotting, damage, and dye bleed and perform remedial action if required
  2. Agitate the carpet fibre to loosen any dry soiling particulates found throughout the pile of the carpet. Then, repeatedly vacuum using our commercial-strength vacuum cleaners until roughly 80% of the carpet soiling has been lifted.
  3. Depending on the fibre type of your carpet we will PH test to ascertain if there are caustics in the carpet from previous cleans – if caustics are present these must be neutralised and stabilised
  4. Test each individual colour on the carpet for dye bleed – testing performed in multiple areas to allow for new spools of yarn and different dye batches
  5. If dye bleed is present (usually caused by PH imbalances), correct bleed, extract excess colour and stabilise dyes
  6. Pre-spray carpet with PH neutral, asthmatic-friendly organic cleaner that begins to tackle and coagulate any remain dust and dust mites in your carpet
  7. Gently agitate again to loosen bonded contaminants from the carpet fibres.
  8. Hot water rinse extract with specialised hand tools and slightly-acidified water to remove soil – using enough moisture to flush out any lingering dust mites, but not too much moisture to bring about warping issues.
  9. Force dry with air rams and dryers

Domestic-Grade Vacuuming Is Not Good Enough for Asthmatics

Domestic vacuums will not filter out many of the allergenic particles that are so disastrous for asthmatics. In fact, they will just agitate and make these allergens airborne. In fact, the Mayo Clinic suggests asthmatics don’t enter a room that has been vacuumed for 2 hours to allow for any airborne dust particulates to settle. At Carpet Care we stock a range of commercial grade vacuums that are much more powerful that domestic vacuums. On top of which, our vacuums are regularly maintained, cleaned and are equipped with industry-leading HEPA filters that are internationally recognised as one of the most effective filters for cleaning out allergens from the air. Prior to any carpet cleaning for asthmatic clients, we shall remove any old bags or filters to prevent any new dust or general vacuum waste being brought into a particularly sensitive home.

We Use Trusted Carpet Cleaning Products

We have been cleaning carpets for years and have grown to know and trust the asthmatic-friendly cleaning products we use as a part of our comprehensive carpet cleaning services for asthmatics. Imported into Dublin from our trusted suppliers in the UK we use hypoallergenic, detergent free cleaning agents that work to kill dust mites and are in themselves safe to breathe for all our clients. Our ‘Solutions’ range is also non-toxic and safe for the environment.

Wet Carpet Cleaning for Asthmatics and the Importance of Hot Water Rinse Extraction

The most comprehensive method for removing dust mites and allergens from your carpets is to rinse extract with hot water. The Asthma Society of Ireland (www.asthma.ie ) recommend regularly damp dusting and vacuuming all surface in an asthmatics home. They also suggest cleaning all soft toys and bed furnishings at temperatures above 60 degrees to best eradicate dust mites. At Carpetcare.ie we are proud to stock specialist hot water extraction carpet cleaning equipment (stocked through the sister company: cleaningwarehouse.ie) which will comprehensively clean your carpets with both water and heat! Our dual-motor extraction machines generate a powerful suction that will remove the vast majority of the dust mites present, and any remaining mites shall be killed under high temperatures. All of our hot water extraction units are self-contained and all soiled water is removed from the clients site and correctly disposed of back at our workshop in Rathcoole, Dublin. After any wet clean we force dry all carpets leaving them ready for use again within the hour.
